Read a Mattress Protector as a Layered Product
A useful way to compare protectors is to break them into four parts: the fabric you sleep over, any fill or padding, the waterproof barrier, and the attachment system such as a fitted skirt or zipper. Marketing names often collapse those pieces into one phrase, but the pieces can be made from very different materials.
TPU is commonly used because it can form a thin flexible waterproof film. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, meanwhile, is a testing and certification system for textiles and components tested against harmful-substance criteria; it should not be confused with an organic-fiber certification. GOTS and OEKO-TEX answer different questions, so seeing one does not make the other redundant.
